Running time: 23.35 “Crack-a-lackah”
Louise:
- Louise did not start this conversation being a big fan of LinkedIn. With only 25% of her profile done, she didn’t see much value using this platform. Instead, our Foodie Diva elects to connect through her blog and Facebook.
- Louise questions if she should actually have her profile on LinkedIn or take it down. Watch the video to see what she decides!
Julie:
- Julie’s business is more business-to-consumer and she does not find that LinkedIn is as overly relevant to her. However, she does see the value in having a presence on LinkedIn and has provided testimonials and received testimonials as part of her profile
- Julie looks at LinkedIn at times to look at people she would like to partner with for business.
SuzAnn:
- SuzAnn has watched the evolution of LinkedIn and now sees more opportunities for her clients and herself in this network. She is a fan of LinkedIn Groups and advises people to explore these options as ways to get involved. She also finds the emailed updates as a valuable way to keep on top of what her connections are doing.
- SuzAnn recommends that you pay attention to who you are linking to. She doesn’t think it’s better to be linked to thousands of people that you don’t know. Instead, she suggests that you consider who you link to as being part of your personal brand as these connections are a direct reflection of you from a business-to-business standpoint.
Kathy:
- Kathy is our LinkedIn Diva. Kathy has done an excellent job at defining her brand on the LinkedIn platform.
- Kathy links with people that she has met at networking events right away. She also keeps on top of testimonials.
- She utilizes applications to help enhance her profile like Tripit and Slideshare. Also, through Twitter feed Kathy has received reviews immediately after presentations that have helped her gain credibility for future projects and jobs.
- One cool thing about LinkedIn is that you can export your connections and data. Kathy exports this information in a csv file to ensure she retains this information.
- Kathy says that you should be sensitive to your introductions on LinkedIn and consider connections as someone’s professional Rolodex.
- More than ever, Kathy thinks LinkedIn is an exciting platform that is gaining traction for people that want to separate Facebook from their professional lives.
Cori:
- Cori holds true with only connecting to people that she has met or knows on LinkedIn. She uses Hootsuite for her status updates.
- She enjoys the email updates as well, as they relate to business more than other social networks. She is making more effort to participate on LinkedIn as she also sees the opportunities increasing.
Etiquette & Tips:
1. Be conscious of who you are linked to. Only link to those you would recommend.
2. If you’re new to LinkedIn, explore LinkedIn groups to connect with those with common interests.
3. Offer information in Groups on LinkedIn, listen and participate without soliciting.
4. Realize that LinkedIn is more business focused so be aware of your profile. (It’s not a popularity contest.)
5. Only ask for testimonials from those who have worked with you, not your friends.
