Welcome to Episode 5 of Digital Divas.TV. In this week’s panel discussion, we are sharing our experiences with Personal Branding and how each of us has utilized our own image to help develop our business identity.
Personal branding, is really very much like your reputation in high school. Your brand is a consistent definition of who people perceive you to be. It’s what people think of when they hear your name. Do they think connector? trustworthy? knowledgeable? It all starts with you.
Running time: 16.39 “That’s what she said.”
Louise:
- Louise did a great job in the past of branding the protagonist of her book, Tildy Wilson. From matching colors to humor, people started to identify with this character as an influence for a very dynamic brand. Locally, the Tildy book was as a best seller and people started to identify Louise with Tildy.
- As time moved on, Julie (Spiritual Diva not present) recommended that Louise focus on the idea of “Branding You”, which basically means that you are establishing your own name as your brand identity. This has worked very well to help promote Louise’s food blog and social media presence.
- Louise recommends associating your name with your brand, your image, your product and/or service.
Cori:
- Cori once owned a furniture consignment store called Studio Good Stuff. As she kept that brand and moved into video production- people got confused. As a filmmaker, she decided it was better to be known by your name so she changed her company name to Cori Chavez LLC.
- Cori learned a lot from the personal branding book by Dan Schwbel. Me 2.0.
- She recommends having your first and last name as a url, on gmail and on every social network you can think of moving forward.
SuzAnn:
- SuzAnn admits that she is always last on the list when it comes to branding herself. As a marketer, SuzAnn trains and spends time developing other people/company brands and often forgets her own advice. Often times she promotes her business but feels strongly that it is also important to develop your own identity in tandem.
- Being energetic and inspirational is part of SuzAnn’s personal brand. She sells herself as part of her company, Launchpad Interactive and finds that people tend to hire her more because of her personal branding than the company alone.
- SuzAnn recommends that you establish a consistent image through utilizing the same head shot or avatar throughout your social media and marketing materials.
- Also, SuzAnn advices that you consider who you associate with as part of your brand image. Be cognizant of who you are referring and who you partner with and make sure their values are consistent with your own.
Tip:
1. Remember your image isn’t just the way you look- it’s about your network and how you present yourself online and in person.
2. Be consistent, with your image.
2. Remember those around you are part of your personal brand.
2. Before establishing your brand- think about who you want to be and how you want people to perceive you.
